State Trading Enterprise
Championing Key Agricultural Sub-Sectors
Our State Trading Enterprise Division responsibly manages the importation and distribution of import-controlled poultry, produce and agribusiness inputs in support of local agricultural sub-sectors.
The BADMC was instated as the State Trading Enterprise in the year 2000.
Currently it is designated as the sole importer of all poultry products and the sole duty free importer of onions.
These measures have been put in place to allow for the growth and sustainability of the respective sectors.
Though the BADMC is designated the sole importer of Poultry products, to expedite business it allows the private sector to import process poultry meat through a licensing system. A license should be secured before the importation process commences.
The State Trading Enterprise Division includes the:
- Cold Storage Department
At present, BADMC’s State Trading Enterprise is Barbados’ sole duty-free importer of onions and the country’s sole importer of fresh poultry in strategic support of the local Onion industry and the burgeoning Poultry sub-sector, which has grown into one of Barbados’ most successful industrial sub-sectors over the past 15 years. As an extension of this legislated role, STE assists the Ministry of Commerce in certifying Private Sector importation requests for processed poultry.
Cold Storage Department
The Cold Storage Department boasts some 29,698 cubic feet of refrigerated storage space year-round and undertakes the wholesale, distribution and delivery of all onions, poultry, meats and agribusiness inputs sold by BADMC.
